Fellas, everyone should be good and rested and ready for the second half of season. Most of you know that the "Shockers" have had some problems this year and have discontinued their playing season a few days ago.
Coach Fisher is working on a replacement game for their play date on June 19th. That means we have four more confirmed regular season games this season and hopefully a fifth game if we can set a game for the 19th.
Whether its 4, 5, or more games we still have to prepare for each one individually as they come. New players are continuing to contact and join us and valuable injured players are returning weekly so the team roster is constantly changing. Having said that we are all wondering (coaches and players alike)what we can do as a team and as individuals to improve our situation. We can no longer afford to have weak attendance, poor participation and poor attitudes.
Roster adjustments will be made in some cases and new names may appear on the starting line-ups. From experience I can tell you that if you feel nothing is going to change and you don't shake up your act that's exactly what will happen. "Nothing"
I believe all of us regardless of playing position will agree that we have put to much time, effort and hard work in here to simply become a team of player zombies who just go through the motions of playing football. We are better than that guys.
Game and practice mentality are going to be key to re-energizing our team. What value(s) you the players place on your practice time and effort and your continued "no quit" attitude at games will make a big big difference.
Having pride in what you do is something that many folks think is "back in the day" thinking. You are so wrong!
Pride is inside fellas, It's doing something the best you can. It's about true passion and effort. It's about pushing yourself and holding your own.
"Till the End" no matter what the score or our record is.
Many of you have family and friends attending our games both home and away. Remember that we need to respect and thank all of them. They deserve our very best on and off the field as a team and as individuals. They are our true supporters and fans and they want to take some pride in what we do as well.
Note: On Tuesday May 29th I have set a 6pm meeting time for the offense so we can implement some changes in our attack profile and scheme. This is an important meeting and i know it will be tough for some of you to make. Above all be safe and make good decisions will driving.
As an important and tragic footnote guys while writing this message to you I received a text message from one of our current Viking players who informed me his close friend was killed this last week in Afghanistan. They had played high school football together.
I can truly understand and sympathize with his feelings of loss myself being a veteran of Vietnam. These losses are hard to understand sometimes but they just re-enforce my pride and belief in the American spirit. It should remind all of us that others are fighting and sometimes dieing so that we can enjoy the freedom and bounty of this country.
