Greetings,
I'm sorry I missed Thursday's practice. I got a migraine late in the afternoon and it wiped me out till now.
A reminder, I won't be at the game against the Monarch's due to a prior commitment. I will be there in spirit and will hopefully be receiving texts throughout the game. Please give my cell number to someone you know in the stands to provide me updates (I don't care if I receive 20 updates at the same time.) I also don't care if I don't know who is sending them. Why?
Because, I believe we are going win this game! I have no doubt in my mind we have the players to do it as long as we:
Communicate!!! Everyone must communicate (and listen) for us to be successful.
D-Line it begins with you up front. Creating pressure on the QB and opening gaps for our LB's to get into the backfield and do their jobs too. Communicate.. you'll know by what blocking style the O lineman is using. Share that with your teammates.
LB's... Pay attention to your assignments. If you have a "go" then you need to "go 100%." If you have a "show" it is just a show and you'll need to get back to your zone. MLB's - if one of you is called to "go" the other needs to play back. They will try to exploit us in the 10 to 15 yd zone in the middle. Communicate... pass, run, middle, outside, cross inside let your teammates know where the ball is.
Corners... you're going to be busy with this team as we know by now. If you have a jam.. you need to jam them. Listen to the audibles on field. Keep your eyes and helmet up. Don't let them beat you to the outside. If you're getting beat call for help, we should have over the top help. Again communicate! If two of you are in the area of a pass that can be picked, "remember" let the player with the best angle take the pick and the other blocks.
Safeties... You're going to be extremely busy with all the passing they do. Keep your zones! SS you'll need to play about 12 yds off the LOS and back pedal quickly if needed. FS.. nothing behind you! Your heads are on a swivel. You'll need to be reading everything quickly. Communication! Keep everything in front of you.
So the theme of this email... if you do your jobs, communicate, and hit the shit out of them we should win the game. DL and LB's we are going to need pressure up front to take the pressure off the secondary. Secondary you need to keep your coverage tight and allow the guys upfront a chance to get to the QB. If we do this, the QB gets sloppy and we proved last week to be opportunists! Keep you head and emotions in check! No stupid penalties week. The Monarchs will take advantage of those penalties better than the Bengals did. Understood?
Lastly, if you're on the sideline and not getting in as much as you'd like, it's important to remain positive. I know it's difficult.
Good luck and PLEASE keep me posted on the game!!
