He most certainly was a great man. I knew him from my two years playing with the Jets back in the mid-90's. He wasn't my position coach, but I still considered him one of my coaches. My favorite memory of him was after a practice one day, we all sang Happy Birthday to him. When we finished, someone presented him a football card of him when he played for the Philadelphia Eagles. We could tell he was touched...his eyes got big, his smile got huge, and he said "Wow, this looks like I just got out of Folsom!"
Just a side note...this man was taken fifth overall in the 1971 draft! Those chosen in front of him were Jim Plunkett, Archie Manning, Dan Pastorini and J.D. Hill. The player taken sixth right after Coach Harris was John Riggins. Some pretty darned good company there!

When I worked for the Seattle Seahawks, I was blessed to have worked with Richard. He was a kind hearted soul. Loved that man. After I met Wes, we were both once again blessed to have Richard Harris cross our path again. Many times Wes called Richard and was able to get some of the Vikings a tryout with the Canadian Football League. It was always nice to have that extra ability to talk to someone you knew. We all will miss Richard very much. He has been reunited with some wonderful former Seahawks. I hope they are enjoying their big game.
