BAGHDAD, Iraq – The official witnesses to Saddam Hussein's impending execution gathered in Baghdad's fortified Green Zone in final preparation for his hanging, as state television broadcast footage of his regime's atrocities.
Some Arab media, including Saudi-owned Al-Arabiya and the U.S.-financed Al-Hurrah, reported about an hour before daylight Saturday (about 7 p.m. Pacific time) that Saddam had been executed. There was no confirmation from the Iraqi government.

Saddam Hussein is hanged
Saddam's death came 56 days after a court convicted him and sentenced him to death. Also hanged was his half-brother Barzan Ibrahim.
