From minorleaguefootballnews.com :
You have led some great teams. Good luck!!
NEWS FROM THE GREAT NORTHWEST NORTHWEST LEAGUE NEWS The King County Jaguars are looking for a new head coach. Jeff Scott, who started the team and coached them from the beggining is retiring. The Jags suffered a bitter blow to their pride by losing at home to the Dallas Diesels in the NAFL quarter-final playoffs, 21-19. The will play one more game when they travel to Mesquite, Nevada on Friday, December 7th, 7:00 p.m. to take on the Las Vegas based Island Warriors (12-0), Champions of the Wild West League. The Islanders knocked off the Phoenix Rebels to advance to the Zone 2 Championship. There are reports that a split is coming in the NWFL. At least two, and may more teams are reported to be leaving to join the new division of the NAFL being formed in the Pacific Northwest for 2008.

Are these the same teams that were leaving last year... and the year before.... and the year before? No offense to Dlck Seuss - information is hard to come by in semi-pro football and he does a great job with the little he gets. He'd need 50 hours in a day to double check reports from all around the nation and publish the MLFN website. Due to NWFL's remote location compared to the rest of the NAFL, the NAFL currently counts NWFL games towards the 10 NAFL games required to be eligible for the NAFL playoffs. How are these new "NAFL teams" (two current NWFL teams and the yet to be seen "Blackshirts") going to get 10 games without playing NWFL teams? Play each other 5 times? A "NAFL division", or league, is nothing more than an existing league that joins the NAFL and agrees to meet their guidelines and play under their rules. Essentially the NWFL is a division of the NAFL and has been since 2003.

Wow, Who is leaving the NWFL!? Who is staying and who is going? The teams that are leaving are the same teams that exchanged film with the New York team back in 2000. They were going to leave last year but both team owners are top secret agents of the US military and were recalled to duty before they could get their ducks in a row. They wanted to make the change prior to the 2005 season but both were abducted by aliens. Go figure. They'll probably make the change after next season unless they refuse to cooperate with the Clinton presidential campaign and disappear for good.

What New York team in 2002 John? I believe that it was 2000 year that any New York teams were involved with the NWFL... Unless we are talk about the Central Penn....The Clinton thing is pretty fun too!

Wow...a blow to the Jags pride?? That was a pretty nice way to word that. Sounds more like one of those letters to the editor than a story that should be on anything. I don't think it was a blow to their pride because the Jags pride seems to still be intact regardless of the recent disappointment. Why I say this?? Because the Jags will be back next year again....

I would bet that there are major surprises on the horizon! Consider that there were 5 or 6 teams that were NWFL teams in addition to being NAFL teams in our league alone. There were also 3-5 others in the CFL. There are still others that are looking to join (i.e. Blackshirts) and it is easier and cheaper to join the NAFL than the NWFL and you are giving yourself to get into a national play-off. There could easily be a 10 to 13 team NAFL league that is just the NW division of the NAFL. This is a REAL possibility! Read between the lines and it's obvious!

The NAFL has its good points and so does the NWFL. It just depends on if you want to play just local or have a chance to play national. The NAFL is growing and trying to become the minor league for the NFL. From what I have heard the NAFL will no longer except out side teams into the playoffs, so teams will have to choose for next year. We have a great thing with the NWFL but with out change it won't go any farther. There is a league meeting this sat. and some magor decisions will need to be made. The NWFL could become a division of the NAFL. The NAFL wants a $1,000 a year to join not bad if they come through with travel money for the playoffs. But tough for those of us that barley cover our seasons now. We could also pay $1,000 to the NWFL and keep the money local. For new teams the nafl makes more sense $1,000 is cheaper than the $10,000 the NWFL charges to join. We as the NW not just the NWFL need to look at what is better for football here in the NW. and try something new like working together to make football better here in the NW. Players as well as owners need to make a choice and make it work which ever way it goes.

The nwfl will always remain the same it from guys to have a good time and improve on there skills as a player and move on to college or arena or pro. But 99.9% of the people will be and stay in this league because it's a rec. a league to have fun. So, go to the nafl. The league will do just fine with out you. There is more than one chip out there.

I concur. The NAFL Chip aint the only National Chip out there. You could always win whatever Chip you are affiliated with, then challenge the NAFL winner. I dont think this has ever been done.

The NAFL has more participants and covers/includes more of North America than any other national championship tournament so it's probably the most "legitimate".
Pushing us towards the NAFL might have been Sam Adams best contribution to the NWFL.
The NWFL has been involved in the NAFL since 2003 so I'm not sure I understand the logic of leaving the NWFL to "join" the NAFL.

It's simple the NAFL is no longer allowing for teams to be in both. In some cases they allow this for a short time.
That time has now passed apparently, and now teams have to choose. This is what I have been told. Because teams now have to choose this presents a new and very interesting decision that teams in our region have to make! Do we stay with what we know, or do we push forward towards something new........

Yes, ideally the NWFL joins as a league - but if that doesn't happen it'll be difficult for NAFL teams located in the Northwest to play the required 8 NAFL games without playing against the same team 3-4 times.
It's simple on paper. Then the season arrives and teams have to travel to Montana and Utah for league games and suddenly reality sets in. Hopefully the NAFL supporters among us can persuade more local teams to join with them.

I think it could work out to be the other way around! How will the NWFL have a season without 5 or 6 of their teams?
Watch for this because it will determine basically everything........ What do the T-Bolts, Cavs, and Ravens do? I believe whatever they do they will do it together. No inside info there just a hunch! If they go to the NAFL what does that leave in the NWFL?

What the hell happened to the original topic? Coach Scott is retiring and you guys aren't addressing that. You're all talking about the "Chip" (potato chip, casino chip, cow chip, etc, which one, and why?)

Coach Swain,
What's the yearly fee for the NWFL?
What's the yearly fee for the NAFL?
As just a fan, I really don't have a dog in this fight. Maybe this is the year that something actually happens to shake up the NWFL.

So there is a league meeting this Saturday? Must be a secret. An NAFL division has 6 teams. Teams play each other twice, home and away. That is the NAFL format for play. If the NWFL owners want to know more about the NAFL, they should contact me. I am the Regional Director of the Pacific Region. I have put my phone number out here multiple times. I have talked with many teams in the NWFL and in other leagues regarding the NAFL. I would be happy to attend a meeting to explain how the NAFL works, but I will not be in town this weekend or the following weekend as I will be in Las Vegas for the NAFL Championship weekend and a well deserved vacation. Anyone can call me at anytime to discuss the NAFL option. 206-571-6087

I guess no one gives a darn' about Coach Scott? The guy's retiring, and he's a very accomplished coach in this league. Is there gonna be anything happening for this man? I'm not even a Jag, and I have to ask.

John,
I really don't have anything to gain either way! There is a yearly fee to be in the NAFL but they also give between 5 and 15 thousand for travel expenses in the play-offs. There are also several other incentives that the NAFL offers. You should go on their web-site and research what they are doing then you will see why this makes sense.
They also allow teams all kinds of payment options for their fees. It is very flexible and easy to accomplish. Pop Warner teams have to raise more than 1200 dollars a year to operate!
Oh and yes Jeff is a wonderful coach and someone should be doing something special for him. I don't know how this came up on this thread but no disrespect intended!
