Fellas, our long ride together in has come to a close. We played hard and we made the playoffs which is always a good thing. We have seen some good times and bad times but we stuck together and had a strong and determined player turnout for our playoff game (near 100 degrees at kickoff) in Yakima.
At the beginning of this season we fused two (2) existing teams into one unit with the idea of building a rock solid football organization. Many of you had never met before and came from many different backgrounds and experience levels. Since early February we have learned many lessons on and off the field from each other and from the coaching staff that will be remembered much longer than this season is.
Myself I would like to thank Coach Fisher and Deb for giving me the chance to work with a legendary coach and an Iconic Viking football team this season. Wes and I have known each other on and off the football field for better than 17 years. We coached together briefly in 2000 when we coached the NWFL All star game together. It has been a pleasure to work together on a completed season and playoff birth in 2012.
Thanks to coach Rob Johnson for his willingness to work together with me all season juggling personnel and activity schedules to make practices and games run smoother and safer. A real team player.
Thanks to coach French and Tom Fisher for their hard work and input all season long. Thank you for your support.
Thanks to Carol Zeisler and her family for all their help wearing a multitude of volunteer hats at practices and games.
Thanks to the many other Viking volunteers that help get us through week to week. We could not have done it without you.
Of coarse no amount of thanks would ever be enough for the players who carried the brunt of the hard work in practice and then carried the battle to our opponents. You were worked hard and pushed hard at every opportunity to make you stronger and better players. I hope that you got from me what you expected.
In the beginning at our first two meetings I laid out my player expectations and rules and I feel that I implemented them all season long consistently. I can be a tough prick sometimes however my coaching is as fair as I can make it. Taking care of my players and ensuring their safety is always number one with me.
We had several injuries along the way (way to many) and thankfully none of them were very serious. We hung in their week after week."Till the End"
Some call football a contact sport. Contact is the wrong word guys. Football is a violent collision game that strangely enough is the magnet that draws all of you as players to play and the coaches to coach.
Character, is something that is always more visible after the fact than it is at a first glance or meeting. The ability to handle pressure, responsibility and physical stress are always put to the test by a mans character.
Character is readable in all of us and cannot be hidden. This season has brought out many character displays for all to see. Some good and some not so good. We've seen many players rise and step up to the challenge at practices and games. Many players improved themselves and showed their individual metal and endurance when under great pressure. They talked it and then showed they could walk it.
Remember always that you are responsible for you on the field and off. Be tough and be responsible. Be safe, Have fun and have a great summer.
Hope to see you all again soon
Always, Coach Michael Stuart
