The Labelle Community Football League (LCFL) of Southern California has linked up with the NAFL. Looks like our Champion up here in the NW will play the LCFL Champion up here or in the LA area in Round 3. www.lcflwest.com/LOS ANGELES, Calif. (February 17, 2008) -- The LCFL wrapped up it's 2008 expansion yesterday by granting membership to the following teams: San Diego Thunder, San Diego Stallions, South Bay Skulls, Southern California Eagles, Santa Clarita Maddogs, Las Vegas Kings, L.A. Generals, and Central Coast Grizzlies. We would like to welcome you all to the best league in the United States, the LCFL. The LCFL is now 27 teams strong with a lineup of teams that has major national recognition. This by far the premier league in all of the United States. In addition to extending our membership to 27 teams, the LCFL made a major power move by joining forces with the North American Football League (NAFL) for a dual alliance. Each respective league will continue to keep it's identity and same format. Nothing changes but the fact that the LCFL West will now play in their playoff system after our own playoffs. The NAFL is the largest minor league football league in the entire U.S. With this dual alliance, it allows for the LCFL West to participate in the NAFL National Playoff system. With the FWFA in limbo, this will still give the LCFL representation on a national stage. Not only will this format allow our champion to participate in the National Playoffs, but it may allow for our #2 and #3 seeded teams to be involved as well depending on there record and ranking. One of the perks of playing in the NAFL National Playoffs is when you make it to the 3rd, 4th, and National Championship game, you will be granted a stipend for travel. 3rd round you receive $5,000, 4th round you receive another $5,000, and Championship game you receive $15,000. This is in addition to what the LCFL champion receives from the LCFL West. The NAFL has offered the LCFL the opportunity to host the National Championship game here in Southern California. In years past, they have had the game at Disneys Wide World of Sports. They are looking at both the L.A. Coliseum and Home Depot Center as possible locations. Those may seem far fetched but the NAFL has already allocated a 2008 budget for this game. The LCFL is continuing to make strides to give our players the best platform to play and be exposed to the higher levels of paid professional football. As more news becomes available, we will present it. Again, welcome new applicants and we will begin the process of aligning divisions and creating schedules. This goes against the NAFL saying that you can't be involved in any other league to play in the NAFL playoffs. The LCFL will be playing their own championship after the NAFL one. HUMMMMMM?

It's part of bringing in another region. The Northwest had it's chance and some teams have stepped up. Now they are moving down towards Cali. This is helping put the "National" in National Championship. Game over!!

My point was that the NAFL said they weren't going to allow any team(s) to be affilated with any other league if they wanted to play in the NAFL playoffs. And now they are going back on that.

Wrong Dis, The Labelle and NAFL possibly have a 2 year plan on merging. Leagues can do what they want. Just my opinion but it looks to be the same deal as the NWFL was offered in the Sam Adams era. Read what the NAFL said on the NAFL-NW messageboard.

Ok so they are merging. Is the LCFL going to keep it's name? Is it still going to play it's OWN championship after the NAFL is done?
If they are that makes them and independant league. And the NAFL is allowing an independant league to play in thier structure just like they said they weren't going to allow. Or am I missing something?
I don't know what deal the NWFL was offered back then. I didn't really pay attention to to much of that stuff. I just wanted to play ball.

What I see is that they will be playing their playoffs at the same time the NAFL plays its playoffs. It may be the same as what the NWFL/NAFL did. The NWFL playoff games counted as rounds one and two of the NAFL playoffs. The Labelle Champion will be apart of the NAFL playoff system. 64-32-16-8-4-2.
Labelle is changing their season schedule start to July 12th. In years past the Labelle started in August I believe.
Don't know about the name change. Maybe in the future they will call it the Labelle Region.

I'm not sure about the logistics of it but I do know the NWFL was given 3 years as an affiliate before finally having to decide. Moving an entire league takes time. About the merger, I love this move!

I see. But the LCFL still acts as it's own league with it's OWN name and then just joins in on the NAFL playoffs. Right? Or is the NAFL referring to it as the LCFL division?

I believe Labelle is their own league as of now. Just like the NWFL experiment was while participating in the NAFL playoffs. I believe contracts have been signed and lessons learned. The Labelle will receive NAFL benefits like playoff travel money and maybe they will be hosting the NAFL Championship game in Los Angeles.

Just to clarify....
The NAFL said they would no longer allow Northwest teams to be 'affiliates'. The deal was that the NWFL teams would be affiliate members for three years and then join as full fledged members. The second half of that agreement never came to fruition.
When given the 'in or out' choice for 2008 AND given the opportunities that the NAFL provides, the Jags and Saints made the decision and moved. All other NWFL teams had that same opportunity.
The NAFL will continue to offer affiliation deals in areas into which they are expanding. Since the NW area divisions are now taken care of, no need for any affiliation deals.
It takes many years and a lot of people working together to make these types of BIG things happen. Look how long it took the NFL to get it all together.
As far as the deal with the LCFL goes. We don't know what the contract looks like or what the time frame is for a 'merger' of the two leagues. We (including Rob Rarey) do not know if there will be a name change at some point in the future or if they will become the LCFL Region. We just know it is a HUGE move for the NAFL and the LCFL and we are pumped about the additional opportunities this will bring for ALL the NAFL teams.
These are things we don't need to worry about because we (the NAFL teams) have a great management team and Commissioner!
We just need to keep doing what we do and put a great product on the field.
