January 4, 2008 Press Release: King County Jaguars The King County Jaguars are proud to announce the hiring of Mike Astley as their new Head Coach. Coach Astley has a long history with minor league football both playing and coaching. Coach Astley has played everything from quarterback to linebacker but is known primarily for his outstanding kicking ability. Those who know Mike know him as the ‘bare foot’ kicker. As a player Mike has a long history with football at a variety of levels; playing at Central Washington University; working out pre-season with both the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins; and for seventeen years with various minor league teams here in the Seattle area. As a coach Mike has held the positions(s) of Special Teams Coach for the Seattle Warbirds, Offensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach and ultimately the Head Coach of the Seattle Majestics. “I am looking forward to the challenge of coaching one of the best teams in the nation and look forward to working together with the ownership, coaching staff and players to help the team bring home the NAFL National Championship in 2008.” Mike has been with the Jaguars as a player for the past few years and we are excited that he has accepted the position has the new Head Coach for the Team. Congrats Mike! darn I am getting old! I remember snapping to Mike like 10 years ago and now he is a coach. lol. I am sure that the Jags special teams will be one of the best in the nation for sure as well as a competitive team on offense and defense as well.
